HOW TO GET AN ARCHIVED PICTURE OR NEWSPAPER HEADLINE INTO YOUR CAMERA ROLL ON YOUR IPHONE FOR EDITING

(TAKES LESS THAN ONE MINUTE)

THIS IS ESPECIALLY USEFUL FOR COURT REPORTERS WHO ARE USUALLY SHORT ON VIDEO.  THOSE COVERING THIS BEAT SHOULD ALSO LOOK AT newstransition.com under “resources” and “visualizing stories” where it refers to “courts.”

  1. Email or have someone (archive person) email you the picture or past newspaper headline of a previous news article.  (PREFERABLY EMAIL IT TO YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT TO AVOID SOME QUIRKY ISSUES WITH SOME COMPANY EMAILS.)

  2. Download the attachment by opening the email and clicking on the attachment.  (It will download.)

  3. It  (picture or the article) will now appear on your phone’s screen.

  4. *IF IT IS A PICTURE,  JUST PRESS “SAVE” AND IT GOES TO YOUR CAMERA ROLL.  YOU ARE NOW DONE.

  5. *IF IT IS A HEADLINE,  IT IS LIKELY A “PDF” FILE AND NEEDS TO BE CONVERTED.  NO WORRY; JUST CONTINUE WITH  STEP 6 BELOW EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF IT IS A PDF.

  6. Take a shot of your phone’s screen (screen shot) by  pressing the home button and power button on your IPhone at the same time and then releasing them.

  7. When you hear the sound of the camera shutter and see a white flash, you will have now successfully captured the screen shot.

  8. The screenshot will now appear saved in the Camera Roll on your iPhone.

  9. Go to the camera roll and select the screen shot.

  10. Press “edit.” (usually in the upper right or lower middle of screen)

  11. Press the “crop” icon (looks like an “H”) and crop the picture to delete any part of the screen’s image you do not want to appear in your video.

  12. Press “save” and the cropped image will be stored in your camera roll.

  13. You may now use it in your IMovie as you would any other picture or video.
